Bobby Eugene Davis

Bobby Eugene Davis, 81, of Pleasant Hill, NC died Friday, February 17, 2012.

Bobby was a native of Eton, Ga, the son of the late Onnie Keister Davis and Elsie Patterson Davis. As a small child, he moved from Georgia to Rich Square, NC. He graduated from Rich Square High School and joined the U. S. Air Force on September 1, 1950. Bobby retired as Senior Master Sgt. after 20 years of service in 1970, having served in the chaplain services and retiring as Chaplin Services Supervisor. After retiring from the Air Force, he went to work for the NC Department of Corrections as administrative officer. He retired there after 20 years of service.

Bobby was an active member of Elam Baptist Church in Gumberry, where he was a deacon and former Sunday school teacher. He loved his God, his church, and his family and was a beloved friend to all.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Davis Warrick and Jean Weber Fulmer, and his granddaughter, Katie Kelly.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Delano ''Del'' Edwards Davis, whom he married in June of 1952; three daughters, Peggy Davis Harris and her husband, Buck, of Louisburg, Patty Davis Short and her husband, Mark, of Seaboard, and Ann Davis Carter and her husband, Tommy, of Louisburg; two sons, Edward Davis and his wife, Nancy, of Greenwood, SC and John Davis of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Aaron Davis and his wife, Stephanie, Sean Kelly, Laura Davis, Patrick Davis, Wyatt Short, and Cameron Short; one great grandchild, Gracie Davis; two sisters, Hazel Davis Harrell of Rich Square and Wanda Davis Barnes of Winterville; three brothers, Ray Davis of Kill Devil Hills, Frank Davis and his wife, Judy, of Greenville, NC and Fred Davis and his wife, Teresa, of Hattiesburg, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Monday, February 20, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, at Elam Baptist Church in Gumberry with Rev. Wesley Moses officiating. Interment will follow at Seaboard Cemetery with military honors.
